In reply to Vesna. Hi Vesna, I'm so happy you loved the cake! I think the applesauce is key too or sometimes non-dairy yogurt works. :) Thank you for catching that! The sugar measurement should be 350g. Did you use fine sugar?

I’ve only used the cake portion of the recipe, and it turned out amazing. It stayed moist for three days and didn’t crumble at all. I’ll be using this as my go-to chocolate cake recipe from now on.

I’ve tried a few different vegan chocolate cake recipes, and this one is by far my favorite. I think the applesauce is the secret — it really helps keep the cake moist.

Just a heads-up: if you're using the metric measurements, the sugar quantity listed there is incorrect, so double-check that part. I ended up using about 250g sugar.

Our son-in-law's birthday was on Thanksgiving day this year, so we wanted something special for him and saw your recipe for the chocolate cake. We made it exactly as written, and oh, what a hit it made. His comment was " If I was a convicted criminal and had one last wish, it would be for this cake" We all enjoyed it as we do all your recipes. Thanks for sharing them with us. Happy Holidays!

Just let it completely cool, then wrap it well in plastic wrap. The icing can be frozen to for 2-3 months. Let it thaw in the fridge overnight, then beat it again on medium speed and add a few splashes of non-dairy milk if needed. :)

I made this for a friend’s birthday cake.
It got rave reviews, especially the frosting.

I have a question. Could I make this cake without the frosting and freeze it?
Also could I freeze the icing?
